Knowing what El Lissitzky was thinking about while studying art history, I wanted to create a painting that seemed as if Lissitzky painted it himself. The painting that I created is heavily influenced by geometry and the Russian language. I wanted to create a spin on his work, Beat the Whites With Red Wedge. The painting was originally in a rectangle format, and I decided to change it up by making the painting in a square format. I also changed the words to relevant topics today, which were also relevant in the early 1900s when the Spanish Flu broke out. The words Pandemic, World, Virus, and Distance are written in Russian.
Recreation of El Lissitzky's Beat the Whites With Red Wedge is part of the "Color Theory" Series. This series is a departure from the conventional notions of the color wheel. Rather than creating a circular color wheel with just primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, I ventured into uncharted territory, seeking to unravel the mysteries of color by manipulating its light and darkness using her patterns. In this series, I seamlessly blend different shades and hues of color using black and white, pushing the boundaries of what is possible. This dichotomy is not merely a tool but a collaborator, an essential element that elevates the entire artistic experience.
